Thomas Leonard was born in 1842 in Vermont. On October 19, 1870 he married Roxie A. Putney in Woodstock, VT.
Thomas Leonard enlisted in Vermont in 1861, as a private, into F Company, 3rd Infantry (Vermont) and was mustered out in 1865. His service is credited to Hartland. He was promoted to Sargent (date unknown), to 2nd. Lieutenant in 1864, 1st Lieutenant and later Captain in 1865.
Thomas and Roxie had two children, both of whom died young. Edith M.H. Leonard (1871 – 1879) and Freddie E. Leonard (1874 – 1879).
The Leonards moved to Austin, Mower County, Minnesota where Thomas died in 1916 and Roxie died in 1925.
