Wells G. Hadley was born 17 October 1807 in Hartland, VT, the son of Wells and Betsey (Green) Hadley. He married Caroline Francis Walker in Hartland 5 May 1833. They had 5 children, all born in Hartland. He died of diabetes in Windsor, VT 4 December 1881. His estate included 120 acres in Hartland ( Windsor (VT) Probate District, volume 37, page 72).
Some notes at the Hartland Historical Society say that Wells was a Civil War veteran. The national archives and the Revised Roster of VT veterans do not list his service. He was sometimes referred to as "Capt." based on his service in the militia.
