Charles E. Colston was born in CT 9 December 1784, the son of William and Sarah Colston. He married first Sukey Platts on 16 October 1806 and had eight children. He married second Lucy Irene (Bagley) Brown, widow of Josiah Brown, and had another six children.
The Hartland Historical Society has a letter from Mrs. Horace E. Slaton, Woodstock, NY dated February 7, 1940: "William Colston came to America with Burgoyne's army as a cook". The letter gives his birth date as 1 Jan 1758 in Scotland. Buried Old South Burying Ground, Windsor, VT. Married Sarah _____ who was born 22 April 1763. This letter is included in "The Atwood collection" LDS microfilm.
The picture below shows, left to right: Josiah Brown, Lucy (Bagley) Brown/Colston, Charles E. Colston, Sukey (Platts) Colston. Three of these predate the establishment of Hartland Village Cemetery so they were moved here from another burial place, although we have no record of where they were originally buried.
