Obituary

HARTLAND — A Funeral service for Lillian May Marcotte, 96, who died Dec. 2 at Mt. Ascutney Health Care in Windsor, were held on Dec. 5 at the First Congregational Church of Hartland. Burial followed in the Hartland Village Cemetery.
She was born on September 23, 1916 in Hartland, the daughter of Dean and May (Combs) Hatch.
She graduated from Windsor High School in 1934.
Born on the Skunk Hollow road, Lillian spent her adult life living and farming on Town Farm Hill Road in Hartland. As a farmer and gardener, Lillian raised turkeys, made and sold butter, operated the Breeze Hill Greenhouse, won second place at the milking contest at Billings Farm, and developed a strong love of nature. She was instrumental in preserving the Eshqua Bog in Hartland and was a member of the Hartland Nature Club. She loved to cook; she was remembered by many for her raised donuts made at maple sugaring time, her Parker House rolls, rose syrup and blueberry buckle, and other famous recipes.
Lillian was a field editor for Country, Birds in Blooms, Farm and Ranch, Reminisce and Country Extra magazines. She self published five books: Looking Back While Going Ahead, We Dared to Live Different, Here Above the Valley, A Tree’s Tale, and Charlotte’s Adventures.
Lillian is survived by her son Lewis and his wife Ollie, her daughter Heidi and husband Tom both of Harland, five grandchildren (Ada, Jenevra, Kathy, Karen, and Donald), three great grandchildren (Mollie, Zebulon, and Nate), a brother Raymond Hatch of Hartland, and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
She was predeceased by her husband Wendell, three brothers; Teddy, Arthur, and Rodney Hatch, and a sister Dorothy Hatch.
