Harold N. Willard, Jr. was the son of Harold N. and Devoe (Holmes) Willard, and the grandson of Daniel Willard, president of the B&O Railroad. His parents both died during the influenza epidemic of 1918 when he was just over a year old. His wife was apparently named Anne based on an entry in the Johns Hopkins University donation record: "The papers [regarding Daniel Willard] were donated by Anne H. Willard, the widow of Daniel Willard's grandson, Harold N. Willard".
