Newport: Gordon Elsworth Blood, Sr., 81, of Blood Road in Kellyville, passed away at the New London Hospital, Sunday, July 9, 2006, following a long period of declining health. Gordon was born on September 22, 1924, in Hartland, VT, the son of the late Leon Sanford and Clare Clementine (Cleveland) Blood. He was raised and attended local schools in Hartland. At the age of 17 he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Asiatic and Pacific Theaters during WWII. He married the former Dora H. Barton on January 26, 1946, sharing over 60 years together. He went from farming to owning and operating Blood's Used Cars in Kellyville from 1961 until 1984 when his son took over the business. During the 70's & 80's he taught CPR and served on the Newport Ambulance and was Co-Director for a number of years also. He and Dora have spent the last 20 years wintering in Freeport, FL. Survivors in addition to his wife include his son: Gordon Jr. of Newport, his daughter: Sharon Sturtevant and her husband Richard of Newport, a sister: Genevieve Naramore of Chelsea, VT, 3 brothers-in-law: Charles Barton of Unity, Orren Barton of Newport and Paul Barton of San Diego, CA. 3 grandchildren: Joseph Sturtevant of Claremont, Ryan Sturtevant of Newport, Nicole Hannigan of Grantham, 5 great-grandchildren: Joshua Sturtevant & Danielle Rankin of Claremont, Livia Sturtevant & Emily Sturtevant of Newport, Joshua Hannigan of Grantham. Also a granddaughter-in-law: Kim Sturtevant of Newport and a grandson-in-law: Jessie Hannigan and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a son: Leon Gordon Blood, and 4 sisters: Gwendolyn Miller, Gloria Barton, Geri Barton and Peggy Maguire. A Graveside Service will be held at the Pine Grove Cemetery at 2PM on Wednesday, July 12, 2006. Rev. David Plant officiating. Ref: Find-a-Grave.
